@ CDW 2018 : source of Inspiration for any designer

Like every year, we participated at Clerkenwell Design Week in May 2018 (22-24).

CDW has firmly established itself as the UK’s leading independent design festival and annually attracts the international design community to this small area of London for three days of exciting events.

To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands and companies presented in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that took place across the area.

In particular, we really enjoyed these three installations below.

1) Next Generation Design Pavilion by Scale Rule

Design Collective Scale Rule returned to Clerkenwell for a third year to assemble a pavilion in St James' churchyard. This year's construction, designed in collaboration with GCSE students from around London, is a response to the topic of sustainability. Made up of layers of interwoven string, designed to represent past, present and future, the creation invites visitors to direct their eyes upwards and observe natural elements around them.

2) Royal Approval by Kinetech Design

London-based art and design studio Kinetech Design erected a large kiri-origami structure in St John's Gate, which saw the first performances of some of William Shakespeare's most famous works, including Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth. In a nod to the site's storied history, the installation, titled Royal Approval, has been designed to resemble a giant Elizabethan ruff.

3) Behind Closed Doors by Hakwood

The Dutch wood flooring manufacturer Hakwood collaborated with the interior company Shape London to install a three-meter pop-up scene of Dutch houses, decorated with pink tiles.Located at the entrance to the London spa fields, each of the houses is characterized by a small door which, once opened, reveals a series of miniature interiors containing Hakwood floors.
